Version 2301 dropped Jan 26th (a week ago) and it clearly says basic auth functions will be disabled in Office Apps. We will be rolling this change beginning early February 2023, currently expect to be on Febru(subject to change). Instead, we recommend moving to a more secure authentication method, preferably Modern Authentication, and enabling multi-factor authentication based on OAuth2.0 token-based auth. We will retire this feature in Office Apps version 2301+. Continued use of Basic Authentication is a big security concern, so we have decided to deprecate it from all tenants. As a result, an attacker can access these credentials and use them to access resources.

Just found this From the MS Message center If you looked at the mS setup steps its failing between the completion of step 5 and the start of step 6 Then outlook fails at the very last moment with a generic 'unknown error' and refuses to proceed. the popup comes up from google asking for the required permissions. Outlook goes through the entire MFA process with google. Other than that do you think that Outlook isn't handling the MFA on the logins? You could turn it off and see if the problem goes away. I just looked it is call App Passwords now days Unless you got the less secure apps notification in an email and click the link.

I don't remember where the setting is in the Gmail Settings. Google refers to them as less secure apps. I would check to make sure that you are not blocking 3 party apps. I took those messages as meaning that Microsoft hosted email such as office 365 would not allowed the Basic Auth after some date.
